Position Overview 

Patrollers monitor mountain areas for injured, reckless, and lost guests and hazards; provide first aid and other necessary assistance to guests; enforce mountain polices; complete ongoing training and emergency procedures practice; and perform various trail maintenance tasks.  

 
Responsibilities 

  • To provide emergency care to those in need of assistance 
  • To provide transportation either by toboggan or snowmobile with a toboggan in variable types of terrain and snow conditions 
  • Participate in lift evacuation and high angle rescue scenarios using specialized equipment 
  • Lead or participate in search and rescue operations 
  • Provide direction and guidance to volunteer patrollers 
  • Communicate effectively using a two-way radio 
  • Completes patient care, accident, and incident investigation records  
  • Maintains current ski patrol certifications through the National Ski Patrol.  
  • Installs and maintains signs, markings, fencing, and other on mountain safety systems.  
  • Evaluates conditions and hazards on the mountain continuously and adjusts mountain safety systems to limit risks.  
  • Identifies and intercepts fast or reckless skiers, or those violating mountain policies to educate and encourage compliance. 
  • Conducts sweep on the mountain after closing 

Qualifications 

  • Outdoor Emergency Care, CPR Certified and National Ski Patrol member.  
  • Ability to operate a snowmobile as required for job duties.  
  • Must possess or obtain a valid State of Michigan Class D Driver License.  

Physical Requirements 

  • Advanced skier or snowboarder with the ability to access all mountain terrain in a variety of snow and weather conditions. 
  • Must be able to work extended hours outdoors in adverse weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat.  
  • Must have the ability to walk, hike, stand, climb and balance on variable, uneven terrain. 
  • Ability to safely operate snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles on difficult uneven terrain. 
  • Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 25 lbs. regularly, 30-50 lbs. frequently, and up to 75 lbs. occasionally.  
  • Ability to work days, weekends, and holidays as business needs dictate.
