Around the Clock Snowmaking | Opening Day - Friday, December 6

Now Open!

First skiers riding up the lift on opening day.

Sunday, December 3rd was our first day of the season here at Snowriver. While a bit out of the ordinary for us to open up on a Sunday, we couldn't quite pull off a Saturday opening and we still wanted to get you all out on the slopes as soon as we could. It was great to see our winter friends back at the hill again. I managed to get out on the slopes for a few turns towards the end of the day, which is always a great reminder of what all our hard work is for, fun!

Winter Weather Returns

After a bit of a warm spell, I'm thrilled to see Mother Nature bringing back some more seasonally appropriate weather. Northwest winds return late Saturday evening, bringing an overnight low of 21 degrees and a possibility of a few inches of natural snowfall. We will resume snowmaking operations across both ski areas late tonight and expect to be able to run steadily through the later part of next week.

Our goal for Black River Basin will be to finish off Maiden Voyage and Starboard/Portside. Once those trails are complete our focus will shift to the backside to get Logjam, Upper Spillway and River Drive filled in. That will allow us to open the Capstan Double leading into the holiday period, spreading folks out and providing a bit more variety out on the hill.

BRB Projected 12-15

At Jackson Creek Summit, we're going to make the final connections on Voyageur's Highway, Alpenglow, and Superior for next weekend's opener. Once we've got those trails locked down, we'll shift our focus to Borealis and F.I.S. to get the Cloudfront Double opened for the holidays.

JCS Projected 12-15

Our snowmaking team will make the most out of every temperature window to open as much terrain as we can as quickly as possible. As long as Mother Nature keeps feeding us the temps we need, the projections above are conservative estimates of the terrain we can expect to get open before Christmas rolls around. If things get colder for longer, or the trusty lake effect snow machine fires up we'll definitely see some additional terrain openings as a result. Of course, I don't have a crystal ball, so I'll be sure to keep you updated as our progress continues and the holidays near. Our team can't wait to welcome you to the slopes of Jackson Creek Summit this coming Friday, December 15th.

Grand Opening

Voyageur with sticker

On Saturday the 16th, you're invited to join us for the Grand Opening of the Voyageur Express Lift. We're thrilled to be adding the Upper Peninsula's first high-speed chairlift to our offerings this season and can't wait for you all to take it for a spin. We'll be celebrating starting at 1:00pm with free Hors d'oeuvres in Jack's Bar and Grille with a ceremony at the top of the lift starting at 2:00pm. There will be some fun freebies and opportunities to meet the team responsible for the lift's installation.

The fully renovated Lodge at Jackson Creek will also be hosting an open house later that afternoon to show off all of its great updates. For anyone who's seen the inside of the old lodge, it'll be worth stopping in to see how incredible the place looks now. I hope to see you there!
