Mid Season Update
February Snowmaking
While Mother Nature has dealt us a tough hand so far this season, the team and I are committed to offering a full season of skiing and riding at Snowriver. This past weekend we fired up the pumps and began refreshing our terrain across both mountains to ensure we can guarantee a quality product through the end of March. Today, she joined in the fight with 3" of fresh fluffy snow and it continues to fall as I write.
Our priority over the weekend was to refresh and build up our base at the top of Jackson Creek Summit where the sun and wind have a higher melting power. At Black River Basin, the guns were aimed at Drawstroke (formerly Cameron's Spur) to replenish the base that was lost during last week's warm-up. We hadn't quite completed that run before we lost temps, so now we're looking to get back in there and finish it off properly.
When we fire the systems back up again later this week, we'll be focused on laying down a fresh layer of snow on our Black Diamond runs across both mountains including favorites like Starboard (formerly Shanty Boy), Nimbus (formerly Winnebago) and FIS. If things progress well over the course of the week, we could see a few guns venture onto Lower Spillway at Black River Basin by the weekend. With a few cold nights, we could get it added to the list of open terrain. It's amazing what our team can do with a few snowguns and a couple of cold nights, and the forecast is looking mighty fine for Thursday and into the coming weekend. Stay tuned to our webcams and the snow report to see where they're working and when new terrain will open.
USSA Speed Camp 2024
A big thank you to all the racers who joined us over the weekend for Speed Camp. We had nearly 100 kids here learning new skills on rollers, jumps, and banked turns as part of the camp. On Monday their training was put to the test with a race to see who came out on top!
